Wesley Fleet, 86

He was born on March 31, 1932 in Mancelona, Michigan to Lloyd and Olive Fleet (Snyder).Wesley graduated from Mancelona High School in Mancelona, Michigan in 1950. After completing high school he served in the United States Air Force for three years from 1950-53. Upon completion of his military duty he enrolled at Michigan State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1958. He completed his graduate studies at the University of Michigan and earned his Master of Arts Degree in 1960. Wesley began his career in education as a high school teacher at East Jordan High School (MI) where he also coached football and basketball (1958-68). In 1969 he became the Superintendent of Schools and worked in this capacity (Mancelona, Gladstone, Pine River) for 21 years until his retirement in 1990.Wesley married Patricia Janice Anderson on June 12, 1953 in Alden, Michigan. They were happily married for 64 years. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and golfing throughout his life. Wesley and Patricia also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States/North America and wintered for many years in Texas and Arizona.Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Fleet and Olive Snyder and half- brother Joseph Fleet.Wesley is survived by his spouse Patricia of Traverse City, Michigan; his children Jeffrey of Bemidji, Minnesota, Gregory (Elisa) of DeWitt, Michigan, and Jenna of Traverse City, Michigan; his sisters Lois (Wiesner) of Holland, Michigan, Norma Jean (Lubbs) of LaPorte, Indiana, and Donna (Snyder) of Three Rivers, Michigan; half-brother Shawn Fleet of Mancelona, Michigan; stepsisters Cheryl (Schmidt) of Mancelona, Michigan, and Doris (Stephan) of Traverse City, Michigan; and three grandchildren Stephany (Dan), Jason, and Hailie.A memorial service will be held at the Mortensen Funeral Home in Mancelona, Michigan, on Friday, April 13. Visitation with family, friends, and relatives will be held at 11:00 with the service following at 1:00. Burial will follow at the Alden Cemetery in Alden, Michigan.For those wishing, m...
